Thanks for your review. I purchased the hand crank version being that I have only 2 hives. I experienced the same issue whereas the frames hit the crossbar. Mine was totally unusable until i reversed the connection that drives the basket. Tops are totally unusable. One side of the the crossbar sits higher than the other side. This allows enough clearance to rotate that basket without hitting the frame ears. Trying to reach the mfg. has not been successful. Very nice review. Thanks

Bruce, those girls worked hard for you! With a lot of wooden ware and a lot of Queens you could double the number of colonies you have because those boxes are bursting with bees!

I am a hobbyist beekeeper and the trick is simple. Mark her with a Posca permanent pen. It can be quite useful, and you can follow the colour chart, or just mark them one colour like i will do as soon as i get a tool to caught and hold her to paint. And with the colour yu can write down or just memorize the date in the hive, and then you will always find her, and also know if it have swarmed or anything haoenned to the original marked queen

This is an expensive project. As a new beekeeper, I don't have that quantity of wax. $10/lb get me a stick. I'm in awe seeing Bruce putting cakes worth of wax into the boiler. That's like a $1000 project

In southeast Michigan are big summer flow has kicked in , I run deeps for everything at this time because I am expanding and want uniformity for ease of splitting, about to make 150 more splits over next week while honey is flowing. Isn't it fun when the bees make us a nice crop of honey!

Great share Bruce. Our club here is involved with Frank Rankovich and the USDA Bee lab and we get VSH queen cells each season with data monitoring. It’s a 5 year program and he’s really seeing the Amitraz resistance. I think doing things like this and what you’re doing here is only going to help the industry.

One could spray them with some sugar water, before lifting the cage, in order to make her sticky so that she can't fly.

Bruce I’m over here in Pinkard and I wish I had seen this video before using formic pro on one of my hives. Not so sure it had 5 full frames. Got a weak nuc this year. 1 is doing great. Other not even to 2nd box yet. 8 frame. Need ideas to boost brood so they can get stronger. No way they will get a honey super at this point unless they explode quickly.

idk, first Saban leaves and now Bruce is affiliated with the Auburn bee lab, he's allowed his daughter to go to Auburn. I foresee an Auburn hat in his future.

Drives you nuts doesn't it? I had a great colony of bees, a rocking queen, 3 supers of honey. I am a small operation of 10 to 25 colonies. One day I inspected, there seemed to be a lot of drone cells. Open larvae, 1 egg in the middle of each cell. Except for drone cells everything looked ok. But...I could not find that queen with the big green dot. Never saw her again. No effort to make a queen was mafe so I went thru a long introduction of a new queen. They seemed to do great with her. Oops, Nope. I put a frame of brood, eggs, everything. Nope. They seem to want to die. Numbers got lower. So, yesterday I changed out their comb. I squashed all the drone cells and froze the comb. I dumped them on the back of our 14 acres and moved the hive boxes to the other end of the apiary. Sounds extreme but good grief, strike three your out. They will find homes in the Apiary and the laying workers will get a Come to Jesus lesson. Sometimes no matter what you do Nature does what it wants to do. You are doing a good job.

Over the last few years I've bought 5 large extraction items from Hillco. Only a few minor issues that John made right. Thats why I go back to them every time. Just feel a little sheepish knowing the stainless come from china last I heard.
